From the warehouse to the top: A “bigginer” conquers La Cubilla

Today, we would like to share a very special experience with you. At Siroko, we design cycling apparel, but we also firmly believe in the spirit of self-improvement and the pleasure of enjoying the sport regardless of your skill or experience. This time, we have taken these values to the next level with an adventure that includes challenges, companionship and, above all, a lot of excitement and fun.

Our hero in this endeavor is Chusín, the Siroko warehouse manager, who until now had never tried road cycling. We wanted to surprise him, so we invited him for a ride in a Siroko van, giving him as few details as possible. We had all the recording equipment ready, and we headed to the foot of an emblematic mountain pass in Asturias: La Cubilla. This climb is known for being long and demanding, perfect for putting any cyclist’s skills to the test.

Chusín, a true “bigginer”, was there to face a great challenge. But he wasn’t going to face it alone. We kitted him out in our Core collection apparel, specially designed for beginners, provided him with a bike and made sure he was properly fueled and ready for the climb. Although Chusín is new to this, he has a strong willpower and an unwavering spirit of achievement that we knew would be his greatest assets.

That day, the weather in Asturias wasn’t looking good, so we brought along another work colleague, Chavi, our CTO and experienced cyclist. Chavi provided technical and moral support, insisting that we have all been beginners at some point in our lives. No matter your experience, the essence of cycling, and of any sport for that matter, lies in overcoming and enjoying the journey towards your goal.

The video we shot is a record of each step of this unique experience. From Chusín’s initial surprise, through the first kilometers of the climb, until the final effort and the overwhelming feeling of accomplishment upon reaching the top. It’s a story of effort, full of fun and camaraderie, and a lesson on how with a team spirit and some positive attitude, you can achieve more than you’ve imagined.

The Siroko Core collection has been designed with that in mind: so that anyone, regardless of their level, can enjoy cycling to the fullest. Chusín has shown us how much you can achieve with very little experience. This video shows a physical and mental challenge, personal improvement and peer support, which are key ingredients in so many life situations. We can do a lot as individuals, but together, in partnership, in a company, a society, a family or simply in a group of friends, we can achieve much more.

No sport illustrates this better. Tadej Pogačar has won Giro and the Tour this year and is aiming for the Triple Crown of Cycling (Giro d’Italia – Tour de France – UCI Road World Championships), which only Eddy Merckx and Stephen Roche have achieved so far. These two were individual triumphs, but Pogačar’s talent needs the teammates who pedal with him, his coach, mechanics, soigneurs and the rest of the staff who look after him and accompany him so that he can finish the job. That’s why, although it sounds cliché, cyclists who win always thank their teammates for their work.

Take a look at the full video and follow Chusín in his first great cycling feat. We hope his experience inspires and encourages you to get out there, face your own challenges and enjoy cycling. Because in cycling, as in life, the important thing is to keep going and enjoy the ride.
